November is a big month for us.  Abigail turned 1 on the 8th, and Ivan & I will celebrate our 35th birthday and 2nd anniversary on the 29th.  But what's extra special about this particular November is that America has pulled together and accepted the notion that the world is changing and that we need to vote accordingly.  We did it! I still can't believe it's true.  I am very proud of us.  And thankful.  Can't forget thankful.

While I sit here & write, Abigail is on the floor behind me, negotiating the shrink wrap on one of my cds.  My cd has become a toy on the floor.  I ordered 1000 cds when I recorded it in 2003 and I've managed to sell or give away a good 5 or 600 of them.  In that, I feel relatively successful.  It does not upset me in the least that my cd has become a toy.  It actually gives me warms & fuzzies.  :)

What it represents to me is that she doesn't have a clue about who I was before she came along and she just sees me as mom.  I have a clean slate.  I love that more than anything because I have nothing to prove to her except that I am mommy and that I will always, always be there to snuggle her and guide her in a peaceful, loving direction.

As I pause to wipe the long messy boog from Abigail's nose & grab the guitar pick out of her mouth-bound hand on this peacefully overcast morning, I think, I am a success, and I have the rest of my life to develop my legacy. No hurry.

Abigail & I went to Laurelville today to visit my brother's new property.  He was mowing swaths of land for paths and such with a mower he's "trying out".  He told me the story about how he was looking on craigslist for a mower and ended up running into a scammer from another country when he replied to an ad.  The light of the story, though, was that he was introduced to a brand of mowers he'd never heard of (nor I, and I can't remember the name now), and he seemed very happy with its performance.  He looked happy up there on his hill.

On our way home we stopped at a local apple stop & bought a 1/2 peck of apples and a gallon of cider.  Little things like that bring random bits of joy into a home.  I am officially ready for fall.

Changes are abound...

Catwix.com will be moving to a new home shortly. I signed with a green hosting service called Host Papa, which is powered by wind! Breezy, huh?

Not a lot going on lately, no new shows to report, but I've got stuff going on in my head. I am working on my mojo to get some new stuff written for a new record in the next year or so. My awesome husband bought me a little mixer that he hooked up to my computer so I can record song ideas during the day when I think of something. Let me tell you, I have been trying to achieve this silly goal for years! Thanks Ivan, you are the bomb.

'course, I think the majority of my recording sessions so far have been recording our precious Abigail. But hey, I have 191 hours of recording time remaining on my hard drive :)

The 2008 Columbus Arts Festival gig was tons of fun. This year, I played with Steve Perakis on upright bass, Jay Gasper on guitar & pedal steel (*drool*), and Jimmy Castoe on drums- a 1.5 hour set with very little practice (once with Jay alone, once with Jay & Steve, and once with Steve & Jimmy). It was really awesome playing with these guys and I hope to do some more shows with them.
It was my baby girl Abigail's first mommy concert, so it was very special to me. :)

Catwix & The Catbirds are performing at the Columbus Arts Festival on Saturday, June 7, on the Club stage from 6:15-7:45 This is a correction from my previous post- I had thought it was Friday but I was totally wrong. One good thing, though, is that if you don't see this post and you go Friday anyway, you'll catch Miss Molly, an awesome local band who's been playing around town a lot lately.

They have moved the Arts Fest location- it's over by the CCAD & Art Museum.
Makes sense.

I received a bill to continue to have my regular website hosted where I'd been hosting it for years, and I didn't want to pay it anymore, so I thought I'd park my site here for a while & see how it goes. A couple of my musician friends have Blogger-type websites & they look good to me so I was inspired to follow suit. Blogger's free and easy. All the photos of me in my last website were old and sooo 20 lbs ago, and I am no longer trying so hard to become a rock star, so starting fresh was a sensible option. I will throw some more current pics up here as time permits.

I am a wife & mom now, and music has taken a back seat to that, naturally. I haven't finished writing a song in 8 years!! (not for lack of trying- I have serious A.D.D. and whenever I start one, I get distracted and move on to something else). I still have it on my agenda to record another cd, but it's on the back burner of my industrial-sized life stove. For now I am content with my domestic role.

SO anyhoo, thanks for checking in. I have a myspace page where I do a lot of correspondence so please visit me there! myspace.com/catwix

Love, Cathy
